Shin Otomo

Shin Otomo

Original Name 大友 伸
Born April 13, 1919
Akita, Japan
Died Unknown

Supporting actor distinguished by his receding hairline, large nose and squinting glare. Otomo played a lot of tough guy roles, including gangsters, policemen, convicts, and soldiers. As an exclusive contract actor for Toho he appeared in several sci-fi films in the 50s and 60s. He is particularly memorable as Malmess’ boss in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964, almost unrecognizable under that huge mustache). He also had prominent roles as a police chief in The Invisible Man (1954), and as the first victim in The Secret of the Telegian (1960). He presumably retired from acting after his contract expired in the early 70s and hasn’t been seen since.
