Onda began his career in the silent era as a benshi (film narrator) before transitioning to screen acting. His authoritative presence made him a natural choice for roles as military officers, government officials, and stern authority figures.
In the Godzilla franchise, he is known for playing MP Ôyama in the original Godzilla (1954) and Captain Terasawa in Godzilla Raids Again (1955). He also appeared in dramatic works like Throne of Blood (1957) and Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954).
