Tôgin Chôtarô
Bio
Tôgin Chôtarô is an athletic Japanese supporting actor with boyish looks, and was a recurring presence across a variety of Toho productions throughout the 1960s.
Tôgin's entry into the entertainment industry occurred when he was discovered by a talent scout for Daiei Studios in 1958. He soon transitioned to Toho by 1962, where he quickly found consistent work. Tôgin secured supporting roles throughout the 1960s, particularly in the popular Young Guy series of youth-oriented sports comedies, while simultaneously appearing in war films.
In the realm of science fiction and tokusatsu, Tôgin is best known for his supporting role as Ichino, one of the castaways stranded on an island in Fukuda Jun's Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster (1966). Further cementing his popularity among kaiju fans, he featured as Kubo Akira's co-pilot Ogata in Destroy All Monsters (1968), and starred as Yokoyama, an explorer terrorized by mutated creatures on a remote island in Honda Ishirô's Space Amoeba (1970).
As the traditional studio system in Japan began to fracture in the early 1970s, Tôgin transitioned away from feature films and pivoted toward the television industry, where he remained active across dramatic programs into the 1990s. Today, he reportedly works as an advisor and mentor focusing on developing new acting talent.
