Onoue Katsurô

Onoue is a leading figure in modern Japanese special effects, known for his close creative partnership with director Higuchi Shinji. He began his career in the 1980s and has since worked on some of the biggest tokusatsu productions of the Heisei and Reiwa eras.

He served as Associate Director and VFX Creative Director for the critical and commercial hit Shin Godzilla (2016), sharing directing duties with Anno Hideaki and Higuchi. His resume includes SFX direction for Onmyoji (2001), the live-action Attack on Titan films (2015), and Shin Ultraman (2022). He continues to push the boundaries of Japanese visual effects, blending practical tokusatsu techniques with modern CGI.
