Sakamoto Haruya

Bio
坂本晴哉
23 Aug 1928

Sakamoto Haruya was a Japanese actor notable for his stocky, imposing build. At Toho studios, he almost exclusively played background figures, most often cast as a soldier, a policeman, or a samurai.

Sakamoto very rarely had speaking roles and did not have a major "presence" in his films. Despite this, he appeared as an uncredited extra in an astounding number of major Toho productions during their "Golden Age," including Seven Samurai (1954), Rodan (1956), and The Hidden Fortress (1958).

Due to his physical strength, Sakamoto briefly shared suit acting duties for the incredibly heavy King Ghidorah suit with Hirose Shôichi during the filming of Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964).
