Tajima Yoshibumi was a highly dependable Japanese supporting actor who frequently appeared in samurai, gangster, and sci-fi films for Toho.

Tajima enrolled in the Nihon University College of Art's theater department in 1937, and simultaneously participated in the founding of the Geijutsu Shogekijo theater troupe. Following the war, he officially joined the prestigious Haiyuza theater company in 1946, and made his cinematic debut in the film The Love of Sumako the Actress the following year.

He initially bounded around doing work for various studios before taking a prominent role as an investigating reporter in Toho's first color sci-fi film, Rodan (1956). The immediate success directly led to an exclusive, long-term contract with Toho. Tajima became an essential supporting player for the studio. He frequently played stern authority figures, such as policemen, military officers, or businessmen, becoming a recurring fixture across Toho's Golden Age tokusatsu output. Tajima is undoubtedly best known globally as Kumayama, the greedy opportunist who purchases Mothra's giant egg in Honda Ishirô's Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964).

Tajima left his exclusive Toho contract in the 1970s and subsequently pivoted, gracefully splitting his twilight years appearing in popular television series (including Kamen Rider V3 and Goranger) and other films for Toei. One of his final film appearances was a cameo as a cabinet member in The Return of Godzilla (1984). He passed away in 2009 from esophageal cancer at the age of ninety-one.
